2023 WWC: Super Falcons crashed, striker, Oparanozie apologises over miss [Video]

The Super Falcons of Nigeria and the nine-time African champions’ have crashed out of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand after losing 4-2 on penalties to the Three Lionesses in their round of 16 tie today, Monday.

Super Falcons striker, Desire Oparanozie lost one of the penalties. She has, however, apologized to Nigerians over her miss that led to the defeat to England via her social media page.

Oparanozie, who was Nigeria’s first penalty taker, shot wide from the face of the goal. Michelle Alozie also failed to convert her spot kick.

Chloe Kelly scored the decisive spot kick for England.

Oparanozie via her Twitter handle, said she was disappointed not to have converted her spot kick.

She wrote, “Sad day! Very disappointing to have lost through penalties, and even more disappointing not to have converted mine. And for this, I deeply apologise.”

Also, Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has expressed sadness over their inability to progress to the quarterfinals of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

She also declared via her Twitter handle: “So sad not to have qualified for the next round; we gave our all. Super proud of this team. We will come back better and stronger. Thank you all for your love and support.”

Recall that immediately after the shootout, Chiamaka was surrounded by some English players who consoled her before they went on to celebrate their win.
