2023 WWC: Super Falcons’ Striker Onumonu battle ready to face Canada

All is set for the Super Falcons of Nigeria to face their Canadian counterparts in this year's FIFA Women's World Cup happening currently in the joint host countries of Australia and New Zealand. While they prepare to do battle, many of the team have been talking tough.

Gotham City striker, Ifeoma Onumonu is relishing the fight to earn a starting role in the Super Falcons.

Onumonu started five out of Super Falcons’ six games at last year’s Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Things are now different with experienced forward, Desire Oparanozie and newbie Esther Okoronkwo in the team.

The 29-year-old also has Barcelona Femeni star, Asisat Oshoala, Uchenna Kanu and Monday Gift to contend with it.

Onumonu, however, said she is up for the fight.

“I’m incredibly excited,” she told ESPN.

“More than anything, it [the competition for a place] increases my focus.

“I’ve never been to a World Cup so this is going to be my first big international tournament. It is going to be difficult and I’m preparing for that.”

Nigeria will play Canada at the early hours of tomorrow, Friday 21st 2023 by 3.30am.
