The West African folktale that has traveled the world is now making its way to cinemas in Nigeria.
The Fiery Film Company's producer and partner/head of production hinted at a release date for the highly anticipated Nigerian movie, MAMI WATA, via his Twitter handle.

The West African folktale has gained international recognition since its world premiere at Sundance earlier this year, with screenings across the globe and awards at FESPACO.
The movie is now set to be showcased at the 40th FILMFEST MÜNCHEN in Europe from June 23 to July 1, 2023.
An official release date for the Nigerian theatrical release is yet to be announced.

The premiere of the film is scheduled to take place in Switzerland at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival, which will be held from June 30 to July 8, 2023.

The film Mami Wata was shot entirely in Benin, West Africa and tells the story of Mama Efe (played by Rita Edochie), who acts as a mediator between the people and the powerful water deity Mami Wata.
However, when a young boy falls ill and dies, doubt is cast among the community. Efe's daughter Zinwe (played by Uzoamaka Aniunoh) and her skeptical apprentice Prisca (played by Evelyne Ily Juhen) are left at a crossroads.

The film was produced by Oge Obasi, edited by Nathan Delannoy, and features cinematography by Brazilian DP Lílis Soares. The cast includes Kelechi Udegbe and Tough Bone.
