The song 'Essence' by Wizkid has made history by becoming the first African song to win the iHeartRadio Titanium award.
On Monday night, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Wizkid and Tems, two Nigerian musicians, were declared the winners of the Best Afrobeats Artist award at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards. They triumphed over their Nigerian counterparts, Burna Boy, Fireboy DML, and CKay.
Tems was also nominated for Best R&B song for her hit single 'Free Mind,' but lost to SZA's 'I Hate You.'
The prestigious Titanium Award is bestowed upon musicians whose songs have amassed a staggering 1 billion spins on iHeartRadio stations throughout the United States.
Wizkid and Tems were honored with this accolade for their chart-topping hit single, "Essence," which achieved the impressive feat of garnering 1 billion spins on iHeartRadio stations.
The 2023 iHeart Radio Award was hosted by Lenny Kravitz, who announced that the international hit song 'Essence' had won. Tems also won an award for Best Hip Hop Song of the Best Collaboration for her contributions to Future's 'Wait For U.'
