Following the sentencing of his father, ex-Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Sonia Ekweremadu, reacted to the verdict of the UK court for an organ-harvesting crime. She said she feel guilty because her parents are sent to jail because of her.

Nollywood Times reported that on Friday, the UK court sentenced Ekweremadu to nine years and eight months imprisonment while his wife, Beatrice bagged four years and six months imprisonment over a plot to harvest a kidney of an underaged Nigerian to restore the health of their daughter.

A medical doctor who was the third accomplice in the suit, Dr Obinna Obeta was also sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for offering to aid the organ harvesting process.

Shortly after the verdict, Sonia broke the silence on the matter and spoke with BBC. The 25-year-old said things may never be the same with her family again.

While holding back her tears, Sonia opined that she felt guilty over the whole situation, stating that her parents were jailed because of her ill health.

She said, “I don’t think it will ever be the same again. And obviously, I feel guilty because I feel like all these have happened because of me.

“Life is just some dynamic. Like you’re one day in your house chilling and the next day your whole life is turned around”.
