Following the declaration that Peter Obi defeated Bola Tinubu in Lagos, some hoodlums went on a rampage, attacking Igbo indigenes in Lagos on Monday 28 February.
However, the news led the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu to condemn the alleged attacks. The attacks were allegedly carried out by people angry about Tinubu’s defeat in Lagos in the Saturday 25th February 2023 presidential election.
A video that went viral on Monday showed attacks at Idumota market in Lagos Island. The video showed shops being razed by hoodlums with people running from the chaotic scene.
In a statement released by a media aide to the presidency, Bashir Ahmad, on his Twitter handle, Tinubu called for calm, urging Lagosians to shun violence. He said that the outcome of the election should not be a source of provocation.
“The fact that the APC narrowly lost Lagos State to another party should not be the reason for violence. As a democrat, you win some, you lose some.”
Ladipo market comprising mostly Igbos in Lagos has been set ablaze.
