Controversial FIFA President Infantino fired for taking selfie before Pele’s coffin

FIFA President Gianni Infantino seems to be getting into hot water constantly. He has come under the hammer again at the funeral service of football icon Pele for having a picture taken next to his coffin on Monday.

As football’s number citizen, he was one of the prominent figures at the funeral, but the occasion was messed up when he decided to take a selfie in front of the open coffin. That has been described as a total lack of respect for the former Santos and Brazil striker and the other mourners, such as his family members.

The photograph portrayed the leader taking a selfie - smiling tentatively - along with other people who attended the funeral, all just a few centimetres away from the legend’s coffin.

There was, as predicted, an enormous backlash on social media from people who were far from impressed that he chose to take the selfie.

“FIFA supremo Gianni Infantino takes a selfie in front of Pele’s open coffin. Without prejudice, what do you expect to miss a photo op, even if that person is Pele? It’s called a ‘PR stunt’,” one person said.

“Infantino at it again” and “My God, what’s wrong with this guy?” were some of the most viral comments on the matter.

Infantino recently stated that he would like all FIFA nations to have at least one stadium in their countries named after Pele so that his legacy can be remembered by children playing the game.
