On Monday, the Nigerian Bar Association, Epe Branch visited the Nigeria Police Force (Ajiwe Divisional Headquarters) in Ajah, Lagos, over the killing of one of its members, Omobolanle Raheem, by a police officer.
The Secretary of the NBA, Aare Oladotun Hassan, represented the group in the visit, condemned the killing, and said the officer’s conduct was suspicious.

Meanwhile, the killer cop and his accomplices are now transferred to SCID in Panti, Yaba, for an Orderly Room trial.

A statement made by Hassan affirmed the need for Police and other uniformed men to exercise extra caution when dealing with civilians. He also emphasized the need for continuous high-level training on human and public relations and how law enforcement agents relate with the general public.

While reiterating the position of the NBA and its resolution in ensuring adequate justice, he said the police authorities must follow due diligence in prosecuting the principal suspect in accordance with the directive of the NBA national leadership.

He said, “However, the suspect and his co-accomplices have been moved for proper investigation on the remote cause of the murder via orderly room trial at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Yaba, Lagos, while the Commissioner of Police has made a frantic appeal to lawyers and the general public to maintain peace, as the proper investigation is ongoing.”

The NBA Secretary used the opportunity to reaffirm his earlier proposition advisory on the need to have a Lawyers and Police Relation Committee, while each Divisional Headquarters should have a functional legal desk, wherein members of the NBA could serve as support staff regulated, maintained and managed by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice as a panacea model towards building mutual interest and maintaining standard professional legal practice.
