The Asake’s cancelled concert has recorded its first death as Rebecca Ikumelo, a 33-year-old Nigerian mother of two died from severe injuries sustained during the stampede. Late Ikumelo, a very popular Tiktok star who shares videos about her journey in taking care of her autistic son, died on Saturday in a hospital after being critically injured in the stampede.
On Saturday, Asake confirmed the death of the concertgoer on his Instagram, saying, “I am devastated by the news that Rebecca Ikumelo, who was in a critical condition since Thursday, has sadly passed away.
“My sincerest condolences to her family and loved ones. Please, let’s keep her family in our prayers. I have spoken to them and will continue to do so. I am overwhelmed with grief and could never have imagined anything like this happening.
“My team and I are still awaiting the full debrief back from the Venue management and the Police to determine what exactly led to all the disruption caused and ultimately to Rebecca’s passing.
Recall that Nollywood Times reported that Asake’s concert was forced to end due to the massive number of followers without tickets who attempted to force access to the venue. Based on the report from the police, about eight people were hospitalized, while two more who sustained fewer injuries were attended to at the scene.
