Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup: Results so far...

The World Cup has witnessed more upsets since it started and after Wednesday drama which saw Japan stun Germany with a 2-1 comeback victory, it was the turn tournament favourists to have their own share of shock or victory.

Groups G and H got underway, which means the likes of Brazil — tournament favourites — and the recently unemployed Cristiano Ronaldo’s squad will be doing battle with their opponents.

Brazil went into to the game with a record-extending sixth world crown in Qatar, and face a tricky opening test in Serbia.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, was focused on battling past Ghana, after a week in which he made an acrimonious Manchester United exit.

World Cup matches yesterday

As Groups G and H get underway today, we get the chance to see the last remaining sides to take to the field in Qatar.

Switzerland and Cameroon kicked us off in a cagey encounter, with the Swiss coming through courtesy of Breel Embolo's goal in a 1-0 win.

Later on, Uruguay and South Korea meet in a game that pitted together Premier League stars Darwin Nunez and Son Hueng-min, but the entertainment didn't live up to Premier League standards as they played out a tame 0-0 draw.

Then it was time for the big guns to enter the stage. All eyes were on now-unemployed Cristiano Ronaldo, as the former Manchester United man led his Portugal team into battle against Ghana. And he did not disappoint.

As he so often has, Ronaldo stole the show. He became the first man to score at five World Cup finals when his 65th-minute penalty — won after a challenge by Mohammed Salisu — saw him stand alone in the record books.

Portugal went on to win 3-2, but not before a scare as Ghana mounted a late comeback, including Osman Bukari's late second that had Ronaldo fuming — not least because of Bukari's cheeky celebration!

Next it is the turn of Neymar, Vinicius Jr. and the star-studded Brazil cast, who take on a tricky opening test against Serbia.

Richarlison made sure that they started with a win thanks to a sensational double in a 2-0 win. The second goal, in particular, will surely be a contender for goal of the tournament.

Below is the list of matches that take place on November 24.

FIFA World Cup results two days ago

There was little entertainment on offer at Aly Bayt to start the day, where even the talents of Luka Modric could not inspire a tepid 0-0 draw into life as Morocco and Croatia failed to shine.

That marked the third straight 0-0 draw of the finals after a flurry of goals on Day One and Two.

But just as question marks about the entertainment on offer at Qatar 2022 had begun to surface, Japan more than made it worth the wait, as Samurai Blue took early control of Group E.

And Spain more than made up for the temporary lull, with a seven-goal masterclass to see off sorry Costa Rica.

Belgium showed no mercy to Canada, and got their tournament underway with a big three points.

Group  Match
F      Morocco 0 Croatia 0
E      Germany 1 Japan 2
E      Spain 7 Costa Rica 0
