Liverpool vs. Manchester City: Salah punctured City’s unbeaten run to offer them first season’s defeat

After going down to Arsenal last week, Liverpool took the battel the City and ran away with a lone goal victory to give Manchester City their first season’s defeat at Anfield. Liverpool striker Mo Salah was the tormentor in chief during the game. He powered Liverpool to a 1-0 win over Manchester City Sunday in the English Premier League.

With that loss, City suffered their first Premier League away defeat since August 2021 against Spurs.

Both sides went into the first half without goals until Salah broke the deadlock for the home team in the 75th minute.

City put up a tough fight for an equaliser, keeping 64 per cent of the ball but were contained by Liverpool’s meticulous defenders.

Jurgen Klopp expressed satisfaction with his boys’ performance against City as the Reds secured a crucial win to move up 8th on the EPL log.

“Result? Perfect. Performance? Really, really good. Incredibly intense game. We defended on a very high level for 99 minutes,” Klopp said. “We should have maybe scored a second or a third. In the box, we really adjusted well. Haaland had only one free header. We defended the six-yard box and won the duels.”

After Sunday’s defeat, Pep Guardiola said it was “real tight game. We made a mistake, and we lost the game. Kevin didn’t follow the movement of Salah on the halfway line.”

Sunday’s defeat has created a four-point margin between City and Arsenal. The Gunners now sit atop the EPL log with 27 points in 10 games, while City has 23 points in 10 games.
