Nigerian Hurdle Queen Tobi Amusan has been nominated at the 2022 World Athletics Awards for the Female Athlete of the Year award together with nine other elite athletes worldwide.
World Athletics on Wednesday announced the development stating that an international panel of athletics experts selected the nominees. The panel comprises representatives from all six continental areas of World Athletics.
Amusan has been in superb form on the track since the turn of the year, most notably at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon, United States.
She broke the 100m hurdles with a World Record time of 12.12secs to become Nigerian first world champion at the World Athletics Championships.
The 25-year-old continued impressive form at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where she successfully defended her title with Games Record of 12.30s.
One month later, Amusan also successfully defended her Diamond League crown in Zurich, Switzerland, with a time of 12.29s. She also won the African 100m hurdles championship earlier in the year.
The nominees' list also includes the likes of Chase Ealey, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Kimberly Garcia, Shericka Jackson, Faith Kipyegon, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, Sydney McLaughlin, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, and Yulimar Rojas.
The World Athletics Council and the World Athletics Family will vote by email, while fans can vote online via the World Athletics social media platforms.
50 percent of the votes will be determined by the World Athletics Council, 25 percent for World Athletics Family, and the public will determine 25 percent of the final result, with voting set to close on Monday, 31 October.
The ten Women's World Athlete of the Year nominees will be narrowed down to five finalists as winners will be announced on World Athletics' social media platforms in early December.
