All is set for the premiere of ‘Naija Star Search,’ a talent hunt reality TV show that focuses on Afrobeats. Organisers of the show said the competition aims to sustain the current momentum of the Nigerian music industry and help form the next generation of Afrobeats stars.

The show is a collaboration between Kennis Music and StarTimes Nigeria and is billed to start airing on StarTimes tomorrow, Sunday, September 4, 2022.

The host of the show is VJ Adams, while Kenny Ogungbe, ID Cabasa, and Asha Gangali will be the judges on the show.

At the unveiling of the show on Monday, August 30, 2022, Ogungbe noted the successes recorded by the present crop of afrobeats artistes, adding that it was a landmark development for the entertainment sector.

He said, “We are trying to package what can sustain Nigerian music so that 10 years down the line when the likes of Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido start to slow down, a new generation of talents will be on hand to carry on from where they stopped.”

The Chief Executive Officer of StarTimes Nigeria, Tunde Aina, also stated that Nigerians now have preference for their music compared to foreign ones; hence there is room for talents to be showcased.

He said, “Nigerian music is getting more popular, and Nigerians now enjoy their music more than foreign ones. The present afrobeats singers are good, but we have so many untapped talents that we need to invest in.

“So, we at StarTimes have decided to give them the opportunity to nurture their talents. That is why we have the collaboration with Kennis Music. I hope that through this programme, we can build more talents for the music industry.”

Also, famous music producer ID Cabasa said that the platform was needed to sustain the efforts of legendary afrobeats singers who worked hard to take the genre of music to its present level.

“Anything one does not pass on to those behind one will definitely die. I have a strong belief that this initiative will sustain afrobeats beyond this generation.”
