Int’l Friendly: Super Falcons humiliated 4-0 by the USA

Saturday’s match will never be forgotten by the players and officials of the Super Falcons as they prepare for the World Cup. The Falcons were trashed four unreplied goals by the United States of America in an international friendly.

The American women outplayed the Nigerian women, thereby extending their superior record against Nigeria, having met seven times and won all.

The US team got things started quickly in the 14th minute through Sophia Smith before Lindsay Horan doubled the lead in 25 minutes.

Before the halftime break, Smith added another goal increasing her tally to two goals, thus giving the US team three goals before halftime. However, Alex Morgan pulled the last block that led the Nigerian team crashing down.

Playing for the Super Falcons are Chiamaka Nnadozie, Osinachi Ohale, Uchenna Kanu, Toni Payne, Rasheedat Ajibade, Michelle Alozie and Ifeoma Onumonu.

However, newcomers drafted from the recently concluded FIFA U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica, including Deborah Abiodun, Tosin Demehin and Rofiat Imuran, made their senior team debuts in the game.

The game with the US team is the first of the pair of friendlies lined up before the Falcons. The second one will come up on Tuesday, 6th September, at the Audi Field, Washington DC.
