Team Nigeria’s Eucharia Iyiazi and Ugochi Alam did the country proud today at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games by winning gold and bronze, respectively, in the women’s F55-57 Shot Put final.
The two ladies’ efforts projected Team Nigeria to seventh place in the medal standings with eight gold, three silver, and seven bronze.
Iyiazi threw a new Commonwealth Games record of 10.03m to win the gold medal for Nigeria.
Also, Alam clinched the bronze with a throw of 9.30m to make it first and third for the country.
While the ladies shared the podium, Cameroonian Arlette Fokoa settled for the silver medal.
However, in the women’s High Jump final, the story was a sad one for Nigeria as Esther Isa and Temitope Adeshina finished ninth and 10th, respectively, with an identical jump height of 1.81m. Their efforts was not good enough for a podium finish.
