Team Nigeria Long jump sweetheart Ese Brume clutch one more gold medal for Team Nigeria at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
She did it yesterday in grand style, setting a new Games Record of 7.00m. She reclaimed the title won eight years ago in Glasgow, Scotland.
Recall that Ese won silver at the World Athletics championships but could not make it to the Gold Coast, Australia, to defend her title then. However, she has been able to do that now in Birmingham.
Australia’s Bronwyn Thompson held the old Games Record for the Women’s Long Jump doing it on home ground, Melbourne, in 2006. She made a jump of 6.97m.
With the gold medal by Brume, Team Nigeria’s total haul of 12 gold medals is the best the country has ever secured since participating in the Commonwealth Games.
