It was a tale of panic and fear on Tuesday night among residents of Kuje, Abuja, as a group of terrorists reportedly attacked the Kuje Medium Custodial Centre. Our source reported that sounds of explosions were heard before sporadic shootings followed in a jailbreak attempt.
A high-calibre bomb was said to have gone off at about 10.25 pm, then a second and third blast before gunshots rented the air.
Residents were thrown into a state of apprehension as a result of the repeated gunshot and earlier explosions. According to Punch, a resident identified as Joshua Friday said that shootings have been going on for more than 20 minutes.
Friday said, “Currently in Kuje and the shooting has been going on for almost 20 minutes now. I can’t tell you what is happening whether it is a robbery or not but we have been hearing that gunshots repeatedly around the area the prison is located. We are all scared as I speak to you. ”
Neither the officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service nor the police is yet to provide any useful information about the situation.
