The Niger State Police Command has arrested one suspect around General Hospital, Suleja, down to the Bakasi area of Suleja, Niger State.
According to a statement by the state Policy Command spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect was arrested in Suleja following the intelligent report from members of the public.
The statement read:
In view of the recent attack on Kuje Custodial Centre and escape of some inmates on 9/07/2022 about 2030hrs, Police operatives attached to ‘A’ Div Suleja while on patrol around General Hospital, Suleja down to Bakasi area of Suleja and based on credible intelligence, stormed an identified compound and arrested one Kazeem Murtala, aged 54yrs.
During interrogation, the inmate confessed that he escaped from Kuje prisons during the attack where he was serving jail term after conviction for an offence he committed and he has been in the custody for the past two years.
According to Abiodun, the Commissioner of Police in Niger, Monday Kuryas, gave the directive that the inmate is transferred to the Kuje prison immediately. The spokesman said the commissioner applauded the effort of the patrol team.
The commissioner also appreciated members of the public for alerting the police and urged them to keep up with their efforts in stamping out crime from the state.
