Insecurity: Ministry shuts Abuja FG colleges

Due to impending bandits and terrorist attacks, the Federal Ministry of Education has directed that all Government Colleges located in the Federal Captial Territory, Abuja, be closed immediately. Apart from closure, the FG also ordered the immediate evacuation of students from the educational institutions.

Our source gathered that the decision came due to increased insecurity and threat to the students’ lives, properties, and well-being.

Following the directives and rising fear and anxiety from the reports, some schools asked students to vacate the premises on or before Wednesday, July 27, 2022. In contrast, some others had informed parents on Sunday, ordering them to pick up their children or wards latest Monday.

On Sunday, an unverified report on social media indicated that there were heavy shootings at Federal Government College in Kwali, Abuja. The rumor had moved parents to run to the school to check on their wards and probably return home with them until normalcy returns.

The report was confirmed by some members of staff at the Federal Government Girls’ College, Bwari, who revealed that they received the closure directive from the Federal Ministry of Education to be effective on or before Wednesday.

The staff also informed our source that the school shut down would take effect from today regardless of the Wednesday deadline, adding that parents have been advised to withdraw the children before 12 on Monday.

However, contacting authorities has not yielded any result, but some parents that spoke on the condition of anonymity said the message came from the authorities asking parents to pick up their children on or before Monday noon.
