Google will soon add "photorealistic aerial views" to nearly 100 landmarks on Google Maps, the company announced on Wednesday. The views, which is a reminder of the Apple Maps flyover feature, will give users landmark display in cities including Barcelona, London, New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo, according to Google.

You can get a picture of what the new aerial looks like in this GIF from the company:

The aerial views are the "first step" to launching the "immersive view" shown by the company on Google I/O, according to a blog post from Google Maps Director Amanda Leicht Moore. The immersive view will also include indoor pictures and information such as layered traffic and weather on the map, Google Spokesperson Genevieve Park tells our source. At I/O, Google said that immersive views will begin to be launched in Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo "later this year."

In addition to the aerial views, Google brings several other new features to Map. For cycling routes, you will be able to see additional information such as whether your particular road is the main or minor road, if your route includes steep stairs or hills, and whether you can expect to meet heavy traffic. And if someone has shared their location with you, you will be able to get a notification when they get to or leave the place. Apple offers a similar feature to the Find My application.

The new aerial views and notification of sharing locations are now launched globally on iOS and Android, said Moore. Information on updated cycling routes will be launched in the "coming weeks."
