Wednesday will make it the fifth time that the national power collapsed this year. According to information from the Eko Electricity Distribution Company, the grid collapse occurred at about 11:27 am on Wednesday.
“Dear customers, we regret to inform you of a system collapse on the national grid at precisely 11:27 am today, Wednesday, July 20. We are in talks with the Transmission Company of Nigeria to ascertain the cause of the collapse and a possible restoration timeline.
This recent collapse made it the time this year it is happening. According to a news report from our source, The PUNCH, a grid collapse on June 13 made it the fifth time this year alone.
Nigeria first recorded a collapse in the power grid twice in March and twice in April this year. The reason is that the power generation on the system experienced fluctuations due to gas constraints, water management challenges, gas pipeline vandalism, and so on.
Following that crash, the report stated further that another collapse happened on April 9, 2022, and collapsed to 33MW around 01.00 hours after it had earlier posted a peak generation of 3,281.50MW at 00.00 hours the same day.
