Secretary General, Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Ugboaja, said that the Congress would hold an “Abuja Mega” solidarity protest to support trade unions whose strikes had closed state universities.

Ugboaja revealed this in a statement signed by Bello Ismail in his name and was available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.

Our source reports that the University Academic Staff Union (ASUU) and other trade unions in the education sector have broken down for more than five months because of the federal government’s alleged failure to maintain the trade union agreement.

The union’s demands include problems bordering on university funding, salaries, and benefits obtained from lecturers, among others.

According to Ugboaja, as a continuation of the decision of the National Congress National Executive Council, a large rally will be held on Wednesday, July 27, in Abuja.

He said,” I am directed to inform you that workers are to converge on the Unity Fountain at 7:30 a.m.

“Given the significance of this rally, affiliates are directed to mobilise in large numbers.”

Our source reported that the solidarity protest began nationally on Tuesday in all federation states, while those from the Federal Capital Region (FCT) will be held on Wednesday.
