President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the minister of education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to resolve issues with ASUU in two weeks. The directive by Mr. President was given on Tuesday during a meeting with the minister and other relevant agencies.
President Buhari called the meeting to get a briefing from the government representatives regarding the strike and why it has lasted that long.
After listening to the relevant ministries and departments, Mr. President ordered the Minister of Education to ensure all issues were resolved within two weeks and report back to him.
In addition, the President instructed that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, must be present at all meetings to resolve the crisis in due time.
Among those present at the meeting include Adamu, Ngige, and Mustapha, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed; the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami; the Head of Service of the Federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan; the Chairman of National Salaries Income and Wages Commission, Ekpo Nta; and the Director-General Budget Office, Ben Akabuez.
The ASUU strike entered day 155 today, Tuesday. The Nigeria Labour Congress has declared a nationwide solidarity protest with ASUU which will come up between July 26 and 27. Many people and bodies have thrown their weights behind the NLC’s call to action, pledging to join them in the protest.
