It was all jubilation as the Government of Kano State declared that it had paid N336 million as NECO exam fees for 29,031 students. The news was broken by the State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, to newsmen on Monday in Kano State.
The information came as a reaction to a news report stating that the state students might miss this year’s NECO examination due to the government’s inability to settle the fees for the students.
He further explained that the payment would cover 15,313 students with nine credits from their qualifying examination and 1,018 students living with disabilities. In addition, 7,300 students for Special Intervention for Girl Child Education and 5,400 students were paid for by the local government councils.
The commission, in his speech, debunked the claim that the examination was being held yesterday. He said that only “Test Interpretation Practical” was held yesterday for teachers only to come up with modalities for the practical exams.
