Last year Meta developed the functionality that makes it easy for users to migrate their WhatsApp chat history from iOS to Android. Originally it was easy to migrate from Android to Android or iPhone to iPhone.
Moving across Operating Systems used to be challenging, but Meta addressed it
last year with the Move to iOS app. With that out of the way, users had the
problem of moving from Android to iPhone.
Over 2 billion WhatsApp users have lived with the problem of migrating their chats from Android to iOS. It has remained a bitter pill for users to swallow all this while and has looked like there was no end. However, that problem ended yesterday when Meta officially added the feature to it.
The feature will allow users to migrate their chats from Android to iOS. Currently, only Beta users will have access to the feature, while non-Beta will access it in a couple of weeks. Before now, users have used various unofficial means to migrate their chats between the two platforms. However, today, the 2 billion users of WhatsApp can now heave a sigh of relief as they can now seamlessly and quickly do it.
Announcing on his Facebook page, the CEO of Meta, MarkZuckerberg, said the functionality of switching from Android to iPhone is now
available. According to Mark, the new WhatsApp update will allow users to securely switch between phones and transfer chats, history, etc., between Android and iPhone while keeping the end-to-end encryption intact. "This
is a top-requested feature," he said.
The transfer process will use the current Move to iOS
app for Android, which has been used to execute the process before now. Note that users cannot just pack up and run; no, they must
meet some conditions. The conditions include the following:
- They must have an iPhone running on iOS 15.5 or later
- They must have the latest version of the Move to iOS
App
- They must possess the most recent version of WhatsApp
on their phone
- Their Android and iOS must be on the same Wi-Fi
network.
With all the above checked, set up your iPhone. After
setting up, launch the Move to iOS app on your Android. Follow the steps
displayed in the Android app. Once the iPhone is ready, open WhatsApp and sign
in with the same phone number. You would see the prompt to transfer calls,
texts, etc., with WhatsApp (coming in as a new option). Select WhatsApp and
begin the process. Depending on your chat's size, the migration process might
take a while.
Note that the imported Android history will overwrite if you
already have a preexisting iOS chat history. It is, therefore, advisable to
back them up somewhere else before beginning. Though the process took a long time coming, it has
finally arrived. This cheery news will put a big smile on the faces of WhatsApp
users worldwide as the upgrade from Android to iOS and vice versa. They can do
that now without worrying about leaving their WhatsApp chat history unmoved.
