5 ways to protect yourself from snakes in the toilet

How do you protect yourself from snake bites in the toilet?

A naval officer, Ogah Bercy, died on Monday, November 22, 2021 in Abuja after being attacked by a snake in her toilet. And this is not an isolated case.

This year alone, there have been several reports of snake bites while using the toilet.

Snakes can get into your toilet from the septic tanks, ventilation pipes, sewers and drains.

Contrary to popular belief, your toilet seat is just a few meters away from the sewers; and it's not only snakes that stay there but lizards, worms, and rats too.

Sometimes, it is the search for these other animals that brings a snake to the surface - your toilet.

So, how do you protect yourself from these unruly visitors?
Use mesh or wire covering to block pipes, drains and any openings in your toilet.
Fumigate your sewage system every six months.
Always cover your septic tanks and slabs. Leaving them open is never a good idea.
Repair all broken sewage pipes. A broken pipe is an invitation to rats and other animals.
Always check your toilet before you sit on it. Who knows? You might see a large snake staring back at you.
