Reps halt Army operation to check Nigerians’ identity cards

The Lower Chambers of the National Assembly, the  House of Representatives has debated a motion to stop the Nigerian Army from going ahead with its proposed operation aimed at checking the identities of citizens of the country.

Many members of the House have argued that their constituents have not had access to their national identity cards while some others are yet to even register.

DSS Director General’s Son Smuggled By NFF, Abba Bichi, Into U-17 World Cup Team

Details have emerged of how Abba Bichi, son of the Director General of the Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi, was smuggled into the Golden Eaglets squad at the ongoing Brazil 2019 U-17 World Cup squad.

SaharaReporters' investigations showed that the Golden Eaglet’s coach, Manu Garba, was coerced into selecting DSS boss' son even though the lad was said not to be good enough for the team.

Some highly ranked officials of the Nigeria Football Federation had called Garba while he was in Brazil preparing for the tournament with his team. He was asked to drop one of the players for Bichi’s son.

He initially rejected the directive but later succumbed to pressure amidst threats.

Hope rises for Atiku, as Supreme Court begins hearing on Presidential Election Petition

The Supreme Court, has fixed October 30, 2019, for the commencement of the hearing of the appeal suit filed by the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2019 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, challenging the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, which affirmed the election of President Muhammadu Buhari, of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

This was made known on PDP’s official Twitter page, on Sunday.


The tweet read: “Breaking News! The Supreme Court of Nigeria has scheduled to hear the appeal of the @OfficialPDPNig and @atiku/@PeterObi, arising from the judgment of the Appeal Court, on Wednesday, October 30, 2019. It is time to #RescueNigeria.”

Recall, that Atiku and the PDP, had last month, formally filed an appeal against the judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, at the Supreme Court......Original Post

Sowore’s release called by U.S. lawmaker

A member of the United States House of Representatives, Karen Bass, has demanded the release of Omoyele Sowore, a political activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters.

Mrs Bass, an American politician serving as the U.S. Representative for California’s 37th congressional district since 2013, in a statement disclosed that Mr Sowore’s continued detention violates a “fragment of his fundamental human right”.

Mr Sowore was arrested by Nigeria’s secret police on August 3 ahead of a planned #RevolutionNow protest against the government.

A 21-year-old, Olawale Bakare, was also arrested in Osogbo on August 5. They have both remained in SSS custody since then.

Both men are being tried for treasonable felony and ‘abusing’ President Muhammadu Buhari.

Some Solice Officers and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) allegedly engaged in a fight recently as captured in a video which has gone viral on the internet.

The Police Officers and Vehicle Inspection officers reportedly fought over vehicle inspection right in Alaka community of Surulere, Lagos.
