Okey Bakassi calls Daniel Akpeyi ‘tokunbo’ goalkeeper after Super Eagles failed to qualify for AFCON final |
Algeria defeated Super Eagles 2-1 to advance to the finals of the competition.
The Desert Foxes took the lead in the first half, thanks to a William Troost-Ekong’s own goal.
The Super Eagles levelled in the second half, after a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decision, with Odion Ighalo stroking home the penalty.
With the match heading into extra time, Riyad Mahrez stepped up and spanked a free-kick past Daniel Akpeyi, to send his side into the final.
However reacting to Super Eagles’ loss, Okey Bakassi congratulated every other person on the team for their hard work except the goalkeeper.
He jokingly launched a campaign for a goalkeeper to be picked from Cotonou in the next edition of the football competition.
“Congratulations to Super Eagles minus the goalkeeper.
“Maybe we would go to Cotonou in search of another goalkeeper in the next tournament.
“A tokunbo goalkeeper would be better than the one we have now,” he said on Instagram.
