Six persons on Wednesday lost their lives while several others were injured in a multiple auto crash in Umuchu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident which occurred at Ibughubu market involved two articulated vehicles – a tipper with registration number, JJT-421XG and a truck fully loaded with cement.

The Nation gathered that properties worth millions of naira were also destroyed in the accident.

An eyewitness, Joshua Agbasiri, said the two trucks had collusion before they rammed into stalls in the market.

He said, “The cement truck which was on high speed, pushed the tipper to the other side of the market where it destroyed shops and inflicted injuries on some shop owners.

“The two drivers, one of the conductors and two traders were crushed to death while doing their businesses in their various shops.”

He called on government to install speed breaker on the road as it was becoming a death trap.

Also speaking, the chairman of Ubughubu Village, Mr. Titus Ike, said the accident broke through three shops, belonging to one Okwudili Egbobuike and Nonso Ezekwelu.

When our reporter visited the area, men of Nigeria police from Umuchu Police Station were on ground to douse tension and stop unscrupulous elements from taking undue advantage of the situation.

The Nation further learnt that the corpses had been deposited in the mortuary, while the injured were receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
