The family of five who died in the Ethiopian Airlines crash were traveling from Hamilton to Kenya, for the baby to meet her grandfather for the first time this Easter.
The heartbroken grandfather, Quindos Karanja, disclosed that Rubi who is a Canadian citizen, her 60-year-old grandmother, Ann Wangui Karanja, her 34-year-old mother, Carolyne Karanja and her seven-year-old brother Ryan, and sister Kelly, who was four were all on the flight.
The 60-year-old retired school teacher who is still trying to come to terms with the shock of losing so many loved ones, said in a telephone interview “We don’t know what’s next.”
He further added that though he knows he has to be strong and accept reality, but he doesn’t know how to do that. “It’s just hard to accept that this has happened. I feel so much loss. And pain. I’m lonely.”
It was further gathered that Carolyne, had applied to be a permanent resident in Canada. Ann Karanja traveled to Canada for a visit in August and was supposed to be there for three months but had extended her stay.
