President Muhammadu Buhari presenting the 2019 budget to National Assembly |
Senator Shehu Sani, the lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, has lambasted the ruling All Progressives Congress’ APC and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, lawmakers for their “unruly” behaviour during President Muhammadu Buhari’s presentation of the 2019 budget to the Joint session of National Assembly on Wednesday.
President Buhari was welcomed to the House of Representatives Chamber, where the presentation took place, with riotous chants of “Sai Baba” by lawmakers loyal to the ruling APC.
The President, while listing the achievements of his government, before delving into the content of the proposed spending plan, the lawmakers from the opposition booed him. He was also hailed by APC lawmakers.
Buhari, obviously miffed by the rancorous display, scolded the lawmakers.

“May I remind members of the National Assembly that the world is watching us,” he said. “We are supposed to be above this.”
Sani said it is ‘absurd’ that lawmakers should behave in such ‘unruly’ manner.
The presentation which held before a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday, lawmakers of both the ruling and opposition party, took to cheers and jeers while Buhari presented the 2019 spending list.
While the lawmakers from the opposition People’s Democratic Party booed Buhari, the APC lawmakers praised him.
According to Sani, he characterised the two sides as “unruly bands of impudent hecklers & discourteous objectors” and “oleaginous & obsequious choristers” respectively.
