2001 PDP governor George Akume fell out with PDP Chairman Barnabas Gemade, pushed for his ouster and had him replaced with Chief Audu Ogbe.

2007 Barnabas Gemade teams up with Gabriel Suswan who got the PDP gubernatorial ticket and eventually became Governor. Both men consolidated their hold on the PDP structure and sidelined Akume.

2011 Gemade wins Benue North east senatorial elections . Akume defects to the ACN supported professor Ugba as gubernatorial candidate of the ACN to unseat Governor Suswan. Mission failed! Suswan won a second term.

2014 Suswan towards the end of his second tenure as governor guns for political ally senator Barnabas Gemade’s senatorial seat. Gemade went to join formal rival Akume by defecting from the PDP to the newly formed APC in order to retain his seat.

Formal rivals Akume and Gemade formed an alliance to checkmate Suswan’s senatorial ambition and stop his appointed PDP gubernatorial candidate Tarzo from wining the 2015 elections.

Suswan’s party man Ortom haven lost the PDP gubernatorial primaries defected to the APC and was offered the gubernatorial ticket amidst protests.

D-DAY 2015: Gemade defeats Suswan to retain his senatorial seat. Ortom beats Suswan’s PDP candidate Tarzo to become the elected governor.

2018 the unresolved political differences between Akume and his protégée governor Ortom finally came to a head pushing Ortom to defect back to the PDP, as Akume works with the FG to to get him impeached.

Senator Gemade defects back to the PDP forming an alliance with old time rival Suswan and beleaguered governor Ortom.

2019
Gemade, Ortom, Suswan with the help of David Mark, prep up old PDP alliance to help Ortom’s re-election bid and consolidate the state for PDP against Akume’s APC.
