President Buhari Receives President Of Gambia, Adama Barrow In Aso Rock

President Muhammadu Buhari played host today to the President of Gambia, Mr. Adama Barrow at the Aso Rock, Abuja, earlier Tuesday.

Mr. Adama Barrow is in Nigeria to thank President Muhammadu Buhari for the role he played in the political transition that ended the twenty-two year-rule of former Gambian leader, Yahya Jammeh.

The Gambian leader expressed his appreciation on Tuesday when he visited President Buhari at the State House in Abuja.

President Barrow who acknowledged the leadership role played by his host in the resolution of the political crisis in Gambia noted that Nigeria has over the years been quite supportive to Gambia particularly in the areas of education, judiciary and technical supports.

He also commended the efforts of regional bodies such as ECOWAS, African Union, AU, and other international agencies that made interventions during the period of political crisis in his country, possible.

President Buhari who hosted the Gambian President alongside his entourage, said Nigeria and Gambia have agreed to draw up a political programme that will be of mutual benefit to both countries.

Adama Barrow won the December 1, 2016 presidential election in Gambia, but faced some political challenges as his Predecessor Yahya Jammeh refused to relinquish power.

The visiting President also congratulated the President Buhari on his election as the new Chairman of ECOWAS, stating that he was the first foreign leader to visit Abuja after the development.
