One Killed At APC Secretariat In Rivers State, Others Injured As Members Clash Over Congress

It has been reported that one person was shot dead and many others injured as fight resulting from protest broke out yesterday at the Rivers State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, along Moscow Road in Port-Harcourt. The fracas stated when protesters went violent and destroyed properties at the party secretariat.

An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity disclosed that armed policemen and other security operatives who were drafted to the scene fired live bullets as some protesters became violent and vandalized the APC office.

The leadership of the All Progressive Congress in Rivers State, had earlier denied claims by a section of the party that materials for the local government congresses have been hijacked.
The  spokesman of the State APC, however disclosed that the delegation from Abuja had their flight delayed, hence the exercise was rescheduled for later in the day.

Responding to the situation, the State Deputy Chairman of APC, who led the protesters,  Peter Odike, alleged that, “Some of their intending delegates had been deliberately deprived of the forms to participate in the congresses tomorrow.”

The APC protesters complained among others things that the State Chairman and other officials were not at the secretariat to attend to them, less than twenty-four hours to the congresses.
