Goodluck Jonathan Appointed Leader Of  Sierra Leone’s Election Observers Team

Ex- President, Goodluck Jonathan, has been appointed as the leader of a team of observers to Sierra Leone’s general election scheduled to take place on the 7th of March, 2018.

Jonathan will serve as head of the Election Observation Mission of the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA).

Dr. Jonathan departed Nigeria for Freetown on Friday, 2nd March, 2018

This was disclosed by his spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze in a statement Friday. The Statement reads in part:

The mission has observers drawn from civil society organisations and election management bodies from across the continent of Africa.

Eze stated that the former president “is pleased to be part of the process in support of a peaceful and transparent election in Sierra Leone.”

EISA is a not-for-profit election-focused organization that is working with national, regional, Pan-African and global partners throughout the African continent.

It is based in South Africa with field offices across the continent and has supported or observed over 100 electoral and political processes in Africa.

Its assignment in Sierra Leone is in line with the organisation’s “vision of an African continent where democratic governance, human rights and citizen participation are upheld in a peaceful environment.”
