A Nigeria Customs Service official who was on duty have been severely cut with cutlass in an encounter with smugglers in one of the creeks in Nigeria border with Benin Republic.
An eye witness account revealed that the customs officer was butchered while trying to stop a daredevil smuggler who was trying to smuggle a vehicle through one of the creeks.
A customs officer who wants to remain anonymous stated that this is one of the hazards of the duties of the customs officials, adding that some get wounded while some get killed.
