The Felabration 2017 Outside The New Afrikan Shrine In Pics

As floating puffs of smoke collide ceaselessly and music blares in the New Afrikan Shrine, many are outside under the cool breeze of the night — hearing the distant wailing.

To Afrobeat purists, Felabration, an annual festival to celebrate Afrobeat icon Fela Kuti, is incomplete without enjoying the inclement, yet seductive ambience of the New Afrikan Shrine, but not many have the spine for the mad rush to enter and wherewithal to survive the hours spent inside.

Hence, Nerdc road Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos, the street that is home to the iconic edifice where Afrobeat lovers often converge, becomes an extension of the celebration.

It’s a little past midnight on the last day of ‘Felabration 2017: The Prophecy’, and while hundreds are queued up to get into the jam-packed venue, thousands are outside drinking scooches, smoking, and enjoying the scenery — content enough to be present, even if not inside.
