Professor Yinka Omorogbe, commissioner for justice and attorney-general of Edo State is billed to deliver a lecture at the annual merit awards ceremony of Ijebu Muslim College Old Students’ Association (IMCOSA).
The event will take place at the Conference Hall of the University of Lagos, Akoka on Sunday 10 September, beginning from 12 noon.
Mr Olawale Ajia, IMCOSA National Legal Adviser made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in a statement issued in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun on Thursday.
He said Omorogbe, a law expert, will speak on Girl Child Education – An imperative for national development,” the statement said.
Prof. Omorogbe, according to a short-bio provided by Heritage Bank, where she is a director, is an internationally recognized professor of energy law. She has an LL.B. from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife, and an LL.M from the London School of Economics, University of London, and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK).
She started her legal career as a legal practitioner in the law firm of Solomon Asemota & Co. in 1980 and later joined the Faculty of Law, University of Benin as a lecturer in 1983. In 1990 she moved to the University of Lagos as a Senior lecturer, where she remained until her appointment in July 2002 as a professor of law of the University of Ibadan.
She was Dean of the Faculty of Law from 2005 until January 2009, when she was appointed as Secretary to the Corporation and Legal Adviser, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) a position she held until July 2011.
She was also a research professor (Nabo Graham Douglas Distinguished Professor of Law) at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, Abuja, Nigeria. Prof Omorogbe has several publications, including books, monographs, book chapters and articles in leading international journals. She is also a regular speaker at workshops and conferences internationally and within Nigeria
Other dignitaries expected at the event are: Mr Abdul-Hammed Omotayo, an engineer and the Managing Director of AOS Orwell Petroleum Limited; Ambassador Bola Kuku; Admiral Ola Ibrahim (Rtd); Prof. Lanre Onadeko; Mrs Dupe Hughes; Prof. Toyin Ashiru and Otunba Akin Osiyemi.
Lt. Col. Mabayoje Balogun, Mr Ademola Shote, Alhaji Dauda Alawiye, Alhaji Kehinde Agunoye are among the old students to be recognised at the event.
Others are Mrs Ronke Olufowobi, Alhaji Idris Lawal and Mr Afis Sanni Dr Olawunmi Olusanya, Alhaji Abiodun Salami, Mr Kola Adekoya, Alhaja Wunmi Akinsanya, Alhaja Kemi Oluderu, Mr Olufela Amore and Alhaja Fausat Oduwole.
According to the statement, the awards ceremony is a platform used to honour individuals who had made exceptional contributions in improving the academic and infrastructural standards of the college, founded in 1950.
