Arrangements have been concluded for the official opening of the second plenary session of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in Jalingo on Sunday.
Chairman, local organising committee (LOC) of the conference, Rev. Fr. Henry Vakkai, told journalists on Saturday in Jalingo that the planning committee for the conference had put everything in place for the success of the conference.
According to Vakai the second plenary session was an annual conference which is rotated among the nine provinces of the church in the country after the first session which was permanently held in Abuja every January.
Vakkai disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari was expected to grace the opening ceremony as well as Gov Darius Ishaku of Taraba and other notable personalities.
The cleric enjoined the people of the state to come out enmasse to grace the opening Mass on Sunday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cathedral, Mile Six, Jalingo by 9 am.
Vakkai said the people of the state and the nation stand to benefit a lot spiritually as the Bishops would offer special prayers for the state and the nation during the conference.
“The Bishops would discussed issues relating to the progress of the church, the nation and the world and a communique would be issued at the end of the conference on Thursday, September, 14.
“For us the host diocese, the conference has accelerated our infrastructural development and spiritually our people would be encouraged as the Bishops are scheduled to visit some local parishes to pray for the people and interact with them.
“If not for this conference, it would have taken us more than twenty years to put together these structures you are seeing around, but in less than a year we have transformed this pastoral centre courtesy of the conference,” he said. (NAN)
