Tomato & Cucumber Seedlings From Borno Green House

Green houses are part of the steps taken by Borno government in its post insurgency agricultural activities plans.

The seedling production centers were built to nurse and supply improved high yielding seeds for commercial and subsistence farming to revitalize the state's agricultural potentials.

An Indian worker in one of the facilities visited by Borno governor Kashim Shettima reveals the variety of seeds used in the nursery. He said they are currently trying two seeds sourced from Holland and France, and they have been using seeds from 6-7 top notch tropical seed production companies in India, and other European countries.

In his remark the governor said:

"We prefer seeds that are ideal for the tropic because of our peculiar climatic challenges. Our target is on how to add value, if we can stick to best quality there are certain characteristics that our people prefer in the tomato, so any tomato with bigger size & moisture is the best option for our tomato processing plant"
