NTEL Nova; A Feature Phone With 4g/volte

Yesterday, 6 July, 2017, the newly revamped Nigeria Telecommunication Limited (Ntel) made history by launching one of the best feature phone ever seen. The 4G Long Term Evolution(LTE) network company launched the Ntel Nova feature phone; the latest addition to its VoLTE device chest.

There are a lot of feature devices that have their individual and specific features that makes them stand out (for example, the Imose Kampe with big 10,000mAh battery that can last up to 14 days and even serve as a power bank to charge other devices) but the Ntel Nova, is an all-round device; if not better.

The Ntel Nova is a feature phone, but in the real sense of it, it is actually a smartphone that has the appearance and price of a feature phone. With a capacitive touchscreen, Android Marshmallow v6.0 OS and a powerful 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory, the Ntel Nova is worth having.

Let's have a look at what the device is truly made of shall we?

DESIGN & DISPLAY
The front face of the Ntel Nova reveals a compact and simple interface with the 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen taking a higher percentage/ratio of the frontal interface. Four(4) dedicated soft keys can also be spotted at the front of the phone, each of which ia dedicated to selected social network and social messaging applications. I particularly love the way Ntel incorporated the soft keys into the bezel of the screen. Instead of leaving the space blank and lying fallow, it was properly utilized in an innovative manner. Impressive.

The back on the other hand is a made of a plastic material finely coated with paint that is available in three colours; Grey, Gold and Rose Gold. Likewise, the rear of the Nova feature phone also houses the camera, LED flash, the loudspeaker, and the NTEL logo.

Ntel must be commended for the simplistic design of the Ntel Nova phone.

OPERATING SYSTEM & STORAGE
What feature phone runs on an Android Marshmallow v6.0 OS?!? The Ntel Nova does. You know, I could name hundreds of smartphones (mid-range, high-end and premium) that don't run on the Android Marshmallow OS. Some barely even run the Android v5.0 Lollipop. Then Ntel, from nowhere, brings a feature phone that comes out of the box with Android Marshmallow and preloaded with basic social network and messaging apps. That is once again commendable.

In addition, the Nova phone also comes with 1GB of RAM to handle app usage and 8GB ROM for storage of documents, multimedia and other files you would like to keep on the device.

NETWORK & CONNECTIVITY
When you open the back of the Ntel Nova and remove the battery, you would find dual SIM card (micro SIM) slot. These slots support 2G, 3G and surprisingly, 4G/VoLTE connections. This Ntel Nova phone lacks WIFi but however can be used as a router (WiFi Hotspot) to share date to other devices.

To transfer files to another device or laptop, you can either send through Bluetooth or make use of the micro USB port.

CAMERA

Here is where it gets pretty exciting. The Ntel Nova phone has a primary 5-megapixels camera at the rear and it enjoys a LED flash support.

On the front, I guess it skipped my mind to mention that the Nova phone possess a tiny 2-megapixels camera. The front camera will take average selfies but may not do enough justice to your selfies under low light condition due to the absence of LED flash.

BATTERY

The Ntel Nova is powered by a removable 1,800mAh Li-Ion battery. The battery capacity is quite enough but could have been better. The battery pack has a standby time of 7 days.

PRICING & AVAILABILITY
The device is expected to retail at about N25,000, and includes a free bundle of 25GB Data, and 250 voice minutes to call any network, valid for one month. However, you can purchase the Ntel Nova at about 50% discount when you buy from any Ntel outlet.
