Protesters block Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Protesters on Monday morning blocked the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at Ibafo and Arepo, Ogun State.

Many road users had to turn back as the protesters blocked both sides of the expressway with truck tyres.

The police managed to push back the protesters at Ibafo and clear a path for vehicles to pass.

At Arepo, protesters danced around an effigy of President Goodluck Jonathan and asked motorists to turn back.

Angry residents also brunt tyres in some parts of Lagos and stoned passing vehicles.

Protesters also occupied portions of Ikorodu Road in Lagos.
Meanwhile, Lagos roads were devoid of much traffic on Monday morning as the general strike over the removal of fuel subsidy took off.
Many offices were shut while there were only a few transport buses on the roads. There were only a few people at many bus-stops.
A thick mist enveloped parts of Lagos and Ogun states on Monday morning, making driving slightly difficult.
No flight was operated at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, perhaps due to the strike and the bad weather.
