After the 2026 Grammys crowned South African star Tyla as the winner of Best African Music Performance for her hit Push 2 Start, Nigerian singer Joeboy has finally shared his thoughts on the award.

While Tyla beat out heavyweights like Davido, Omah Lay, Wizkid, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy, Joeboy made it clear that her win was fully deserved.

In a recent interview with Jay On-Air, he admitted he had hoped Davido would take home the award but quickly gave credit where it was due.

“While I personally hoped Davido would win the Best African Music Performance award at this year’s Grammys, you can’t take away what Tyla has achieved. She’s an exceptional artist and put in a lot of effort,” Joeboy said.

He continued, “People may have their opinions, but Tyla truly deserved the Grammy. I have no issue with her win.”

The singer also hinted at a possible collaboration with Tyla in the future, praising her professionalism and talent. With big names like Omah Lay, Wizkid, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy in the running, Tyla’s victory shows that originality and dedication truly stand out.

As Joeboy noted, this doesn’t mean the others weren’t working hard, but she had something special that set her apart.

Joeboy’s remarks add a respected voice to the ongoing conversation about Africa’s music scene, emphasizing that recognition comes when it’s earned, and Tyla has clearly earned it.
