Tension and raw emotion swept through Bojongo, a neighborhood in Bonaberi, Douala, after a dramatic confrontation unfolded involving a man accused of repeatedly abusing his wife. The incident, which occurred roughly two days ago, has since ignited heated debate across Cameroon, following the circulation of a widely shared video online.

According to multiple local accounts, the man known within the community by the intimidating nickname “Father Lion” had allegedly built a reputation for regularly assaulting his wife. Neighbors say her cries had become a grim and familiar sound in the area, echoing through the compound over several months. What changed this time was the response.

Witnesses report that on the day of the incident, the woman’s screams once again rang out, prompting a group of women from the neighborhood to intervene. Rather than watching silently, they reportedly stormed the man’s residence, confronting him over what they described as a long pattern of violent behavior.

Footage circulating on social media captures moments of the chaos that followed. In the video, the accused man is seen wielding a machete, apparently attempting to fend off the crowd.

The situation escalated quickly, but another man stepped in and disarmed him. Afterward, the women continued their assault, chasing him until he reportedly fled and sought refuge inside a nearby hut.

A Cameroonian resident who confirmed the incident described the man as someone who had normalized violence within his household, saying he had turned his wife into a “punching bag.” The same individual shared a vivid account of the incident that has since gone viral:

“My people, what happened in Bojongo, Bonaberi today is straight out of a movie scene! For months, this neighborhood had become used to the endless cries of a woman beaten by her own husband, a man who had turned his wife into a daily punching bag. He called himself “Father Lion”, but yesterday, the lion met the lionesses! When he started his usual madness again, about fifteen angry women from the neighborhood said, “enough is enough!” They stormed his compound, surrounded him, and taught him a lesson of a lifetime, with clubs, courage, and unity! Witnesses say the so-called “Father Lion” tried to roar, but before long, he was on the ground, humbled and bruised, running away with his tail between his legs! The message from Bojongo is clear: you raise your hands against a woman, the community will raise theirs against you. Justice doesn’t always wear a uniform. Sometimes, it wears a wrapper.”

While many online users have applauded the women’s actions as a bold stand against d0mestic  vi0lence, others have raised concerns about mob justice and the dangers of taking the law into one’s own hands. As of the time of reporting, it remains unclear whether local authorities have opened a formal investigation or if any arrests have been made.

What is certain, however, is that the events in Bojongo have struck a nerve nationwide forcing an uncomfortable but urgent conversation about domestic

abuse, community responsibility, and the limits of justice when institutions are perceived to fail.
