Nigerian socialite and nightlife entrepreneur, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has reacted strongly to Davido’s loss at the 2026 Grammy Awards, alleging that the singer is being deliberately frustrated for refusing to compromise his personal values.
Davido lost out to South African star, Tyla, in the Best African Music Performance category at the Grammy Awards ceremony held on Sunday.
The loss sparked widespread reactions across social media, especially among fans and celebrities who believed the Nigerian superstar deserved the award.
Reacting via an Instagram post, Cubana Chief Priest suggested that Davido’s repeated Grammy snubs were not accidental.
According to him, powerful Western music executives are allegedly trying to pressure the singer into indulging in what he described as “demonic” practices, which Davido has consistently refused to do.
The celebrity barman claimed that the frustration being meted out to the singer is part of a broader attempt to break his spirit and force him to conform to certain expectations within the global music industry. He, however, praised Davido for standing firm and maintaining his values despite the alleged pressure.
In his post, Cubana Chief Priest urged Davido not to be discouraged by the setback and to remain focused on his craft.
He encouraged the singer to continue releasing music and entertaining his fans, insisting that success is inevitable for someone who stays true to himself.
“Oyibo dey do everything possible to break a strong man so he can do their demonic sh*t with them but he will never do ot,” he wrote. “Heads up brother, open the bag and drop another hot one for us. E no dey finish, gbedu na water.”
Cubana Chief Priest’s comments quickly gained traction online, drawing mixed reactions from fans and industry observers.
While some agreed with his views and praised Davido’s resilience, others dismissed the claims as speculative and unfounded.
Davido, who has enjoyed massive global success over the years, remains one of Africa’s most influential music exports. Despite multiple Grammy nominations, the award has continued to elude him, a situation that has often sparked debates about the recognition of African artists on global platforms.
Meanwhile, the 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony also generated significant buzz within the African music scene, with several artists receiving nominations and wins across various categories.
South African singer Tyla’s victory further highlighted the growing influence of African music on the global stage.
As of the time of filing this report, Davido has not publicly responded to Cubana Chief Priest’s comments. However, the singer continues to enjoy strong support from fans, colleagues, and industry figures who remain confident that his impact and legacy extend far beyond awards.
