The Lagos State Police Command has launched an official investigation into Pastor Chris Okafor, senior pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, following a series of sexual misconduct allegations that have surfaced on social media.
The investigation was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, who instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to summon Okafor for questioning. Alleged victims and witnesses are also expected to provide statements to assist in the inquiry.
“The CP has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, despite the fact that no one has formally come forward to report,” Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, said. She added that witnesses will be interviewed to ensure the probe is comprehensive.
The move follows public outrage after actress Doris Ogala accused Okafor of sexual misconduct spanning nearly a decade. In emotional Instagram videos posted on December 14, 2025, Ogala alleged that her relationship with the pastor began in 2017 and lasted nine years. She claimed the relationship included unfulfilled promises of marriage and involved the sharing of explicit photos, which she says also contributed to the breakdown of her previous marriage.
During a church service, Pastor Okafor publicly apologised, kneeling on the pulpit to admit past “mistakes” and seeking forgiveness from the congregation. The apology came shortly after he married a new bride, Pearl, on December 16, 2025, in a ceremony attended by prominent clerics.
Adebisi further revealed that the police reached out to a YouTuber who had interviewed alleged victims, obtaining direct links to witnesses to facilitate the investigation. Since Ogala’s public accusation, other women have reportedly come forward with claims against the pastor, including manipulation, infidelity, and sexual misconduct.
Okafor’s former wife, Bessem Okafor, also alleged that the pastor engaged in infidelity, deception, and physical assault during their marriage, adding to the growing number of claims facing the cleric.
Despite the mounting allegations, some members of Mountain of Liberation have defended Pastor Okafor. They dismissed the claims as attempts to extort money from him, insisting that the accusations are unsubstantiated and motivated by ulterior interests.
Authorities noted that no formal petition had been filed prior to CP Jimoh’s directive. The investigation was launched in response to public concern and media reports, underscoring the seriousness with which the Lagos Police are approaching the matter.
Adebisi confirmed that the SCID is expected to provide updates as Pastor Okafor is questioned and witnesses submit statements. She emphasised that the inquiry will be thorough, stating that the testimonies of victims and witnesses will form the basis for any further legal actions.
The investigation has generated widespread attention across social media platforms, with debates intensifying around the accountability of religious leaders and the rights of alleged victims to be heard. As Lagos Police continue to probe the matter, many are closely watching for developments that could set a precedent for handling allegations of misconduct involving prominent clergy members.
With multiple women now reportedly willing to cooperate, the SCID’s investigation is likely to be extensive. Police sources indicate that the process will include a detailed review of testimonies, corroborating evidence, and any relevant digital communications.
The Lagos State Police Command has stressed that the investigation is impartial, aimed solely at uncovering facts and ensuring that justice is served, regardless of the pastor’s public status or influence.
