Femi Adebayo’s thrilling feature Seven Doors has emerged as the frontrunner for the 2025 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, scoring nine nominations across major categories.
The nominees for the 17th edition of the prestigious event were officially announced during a ceremony held on Monday in Lagos, celebrating some of the year’s most impactful filmmakers and performances.
Trailing closely behind Seven Doors is Abanisete, produced by and starring Ibrahim “Itele” Yekini, which earned eight nominations. Mercy Aigbe also made a strong showing this year, with her productions My Mother Is A Witch and Farmer’s Bride receiving seven and six nominations respectively—cementing her status as one of Nollywood’s most successful producers of the season.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, expressed excitement over the awards’ return to Lagos.
“Lagos is the home of excellence, the state of aquatic splendour, so I know people are expectant,” she said.
The commissioner also discussed the organisers’ Guinness World Record attempt for the longest red carpet, which will be held on the new Coastal Road. According to her, the plan showcases Lagos’ exceptional capacity under the leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. “It’s because it is Lagos; that is the only reason you can have a runway on a highway,” she added.
Yinka Adebayo, Group Executive Director for West and Central Africa at Omnicom Media Group, joined the commissioner in revealing the full list of nominees. He described the awards’ return to Lagos as a “fantastic idea” and commended the organisers for their dedication.
“Doing this consistently for 17 years is something we must commend Seun Oloketuyi and his team for,” Adebayo said.
The 2025 BON Awards ceremony will take place on December 14, 2025, at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, where the winners will be officially announced.
