South African Grammy Award-winning DJ and record producer, Black Coffee, has declared that he will never remarry, insisting that he has now reached a stage in his life where he fully understands himself and no longer feels compelled to live by societal expectations.

Speaking on a recent episode of Podcast and Chill, the internationally acclaimed disc jockey opened up about his journey, the lessons he learned from his past marriage, and how societal pressure once played a major role in his personal decisions.

According to Black Coffee, whose real name is Nkosinathi Innocent Maphumulo, his parents and the people around him began to pressure him into marriage after he achieved success in his career.

The renowned DJ explained that once he became rich and famous, those close to him expected him to conform to the traditional path of settling down with a wife and raising a family.

“I won’t get married again. I’m clear about that because I am now in a better space in understanding who I am. I also understand the kind of pressure society puts you in without ever backing you up,” he said during the podcast.

Reflecting on his early career, the 48-year-old revealed that pursuing music was not considered a conventional career choice, and many doubted his future success.

He said that when his musical career finally took off, and he started acquiring wealth  buying his first house and car  the same people who once doubted him began urging him to get married.

“With my career, especially because it wasn’t so obvious, meaning I wasn’t going to get a degree and become a lawyer. It was very unclear, but as soon as it popped, everyone was wowed. I bought my first house and car, and they [my parents] were like, ‘When are you getting a wife?’” he recounted.

Black Coffee admitted that, for a long time, he allowed society to dictate how he lived and the choices he made.

However, as he grew older, he began to understand himself better and realized that much of the pressure he faced came from people who would not stand by him when things went wrong.

He emphasized that choosing to remain single is now an act of self-awareness and protection, especially given the nature of his demanding career.

The world-famous DJ, who has performed in some of the biggest music festivals and collaborated with top global artists, said remaining unmarried gives him the freedom and peace of mind to focus on his music and personal growth without distractions or societal judgment.

Black Coffee’s marriage to actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa ended in 2019 following reports of infidelity involving the DJ and a local model. Their union, which began in 2011, produced two children, while Black Coffee also has two other children from previous relationships.

Since their separation, both Black Coffee and Enhle have publicly shared their individual journeys toward healing and self-discovery. For the award-winning producer, the experience seems to have reshaped his outlook on love, marriage, and personal fulfillment.

He concluded that his decision to stay single is not rooted in bitterness but in a deeper sense of self-understanding  a choice that allows him to live authentically and on his own terms.
