Nigerian hip-hop artist Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji, better known by his stage name Oladips, has spoken candidly about his brief detention by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations related to tax non-compliance.
The rapper detailed his ordeal during custody, emphasizing that authorities ultimately cleared him of any involvement in fraudulent schemes.
The incident occurred in November 2024, when EFCC operatives conducted a pre-dawn operation in his residential estate, rounding up multiple occupants on suspicion of internet fraud. In a fresh appearance on Hip TV, Oladips explained that while the initial raid targeted potential scammers, his own case shifted to outstanding tax obligations once no evidence of wrongdoing surfaced.
“Nigeria just happened to me because it was just a normal night and EFCC entered my estate. I mean it’s a big estate and they were just going from house to house arresting people. I was inside my house. It was about 3am."I saw it inside the estate group that EFCC were inside. I promise you, I was on my bed pressing phone because it’s none of my business. I didn’t run because I don’t do fraud, I don’t do Yahoo. Na person wey do fraud go dey run.
" The next thing, they broke my kitchen door and entered my house and asked for my phone and laptop. I’m only using two phones, I don’t have a laptop. So they collected my phones did their investigation and realised that I don’t fraud. When they can’t find anything to hold me down, That’s when one of their oga came out and said do I pay tax? That’s how they locked me up for not paying tax”, he narrated.
