Nigerian Afrobeat superstar Wizkid has been announced as one of the main performers for the CANEX 2025 Mega Concert scheduled to hold on Friday, September 5, in Algeria. The confirmation was made public by the organisers on September 2.
The Mega Concert is one of the highlights of the CANEX 2025 exhibition, a platform that not only showcases Africa’s national defence and security industries but also celebrates the continent’s cultural richness through music and art.
Top performers from Algeria, South Africa, Congo, Kenya, and several other African nations will also grace the stage, making the event a truly pan-African festival.
Organisers have described Wizkid’s participation as a landmark moment, underlining his ability to draw audiences beyond the continent. “Renowned for his infectious Afrobeat rhythms, chart-topping hits, and magnetic stage presence, Wizkid has become one of Africa’s most celebrated music icons,” CANEX officials noted.
They further remarked, “At CANEX, his music will bring unmatched energy, signature Afrobeat grooves, and a celebration of African culture that promises to unite audiences and create unforgettable live moments.”
Although unconfirmed by CANEX, reports circulating on social media claim that Wizkid may earn up to ₦6.4 billion ($4.2 million) for the performance.
The speculation has spread widely across online platforms. Instagram pages such as @tooxclusive_com and @entdaily001 claimed, “Wizkid has been paid ₦6.4 billion ($4.2 million) for the event.” Similarly, on X (formerly Twitter), users like @Jahboy and @ChaftsAfrica posted, “Wizkid will be paid $4.2 million to headline the Carnex Mega Concert on September 5 in Algiers, Algeria.”
This would not be the first time Wizkid commands huge fees for his performances. Back in 2018, he was reported to have earned about 50 million Indian Rupees ($681,200 or around ₦245.9 million) for performing at a royal wedding at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur, India.
More recently, in 2025, he headlined the AIA Sound Festival in Denmark in August with reports suggesting a $3 million payout. His sold-out show at Madison Square Garden in New York on June 7 generated an estimated $1 million in ticket revenue, while his appearances at London’s O2 Arena and the State Farm Arena in Atlanta reportedly fetched nearly $900,000 each.
Such milestones continue to affirm Wizkid’s position as one of Africa’s most sought-after performers, cementing his influence as a global Afrobeat ambassador.
